The goblet was designed in honor of the 'Birds' Head Haggadah' that was written in Franconia at the last quarter of the 13th century. In this Haggadah most of the humans have faces of birds to avoid the rule of not being allowed to draw a human face. The design also follows the verse in helping to distance us from curses.
